Benefiting the Most From Your Yoga Practice

Yoga is not only a popular form of exercise, but depending on how you practice, can be exciting or relaxing, social or meditation, or relaxation. No matter which of these best describes your yoga class, here are some tips to help you make the most of every class you attend.

* Go to yoga class with an empty stomach. Yoga is full of bending, twisting, extension, stretching and strengthening moves. Eating a big dinner before that kind of movement can result in you cramping up or feeling nauseous and having to leave the class or not participate as actively as you want.

* Contact your yoga instructor. If you have a bad back or a sprained ankle, let your instructor know before class. He or she offers adjusted versions of these forms or give you a nod when you need to skip an opportunity that can worsen your condition.

* Leave your cell phones and pagers outside. Do not put them in silent mode, but literally kept in the car. It is not just a favor to your classmates and their discussion, but your mind should be concentrated only in the yoga and not to determine if someone tries to contact you about the work or the juice spilled the living room carpet.

* Do not arrive late and leave early. This disrupts the instructor's training and concentration of thought of others in the class. Also, of course not get everything you can about your time, if the time is reduced to 50 minutes before you start.

* Be respectful of others in the class. This means keeping your voice down when talking with others and, in general, keeping conversation to a minimum. Bring your own towel or yoga mat if you need and make sure you are clean and do not wear perfumes or strong odors. If accessories are used, so make sure you bring your far when you are done, and by all means, those who go to the next class.
