The Christian Viewpoint of the Benefits of Yoga

The benefits of yoga is twofold - to provide better health and a combination with the spirit of life. This is achieved by using many different aspects, but mainly a combination of asanas, or postures, and breathing / meditation.

This raises many questions of the Christian community. In my research of this article, I was very surprised by the prospect of Christian apologists, and take yoga and its practice. I hesitated to write this article because the point of view. However, I think this problem and the position of the Christian community to ensure an examination of the subject.

Yoga has a history dating back over 5000 years to the beginning of civilization. Little is really known for yoga. He is believed to have originated in Mehrgarh, a Neolithic village in what is now Afghanistan. Scholars believe he is born of Stone Age Shamanism. In this period of early dawn of civilization, yoga is a community resource because of its attempt to determine the cosmic order through inner vision, and apply it in everyday life. In recent years, yoga has evolved into an internal dialogue through which yogis have sought to develop their own salvation and enlightenment.

Archaeological evidence of yoga in the first appearance of stone excavated in the Indus seals. And 'the figures described in many yoga asanas, or postures, yoga, and officially put the time around 3000 BC major import, is also a great Indus-Sarasvati Yoga, time, time that was considered modern and efficient.

Of civilization of the Indus-Sarasvati reached the ancient texts known as the Vedas, the oldest scriptures of the world. The Vedas are a collection of hymns in praise of a higher power and contains the oldest written history of the teachings of yoga. The Vedas requires the professional to transcend human limitations and reach a higher spiritual level. Years later, the texts known as the Brahmins have been written to explain the rituals and the hymns of the Vedas. After this came Aranyakas text, which describes the practice of yogis who live in the solitude of the forest. This led to the start of the medical tradition of India known as Ayurveda. After all, practice yoga in health, harmony of mind and way of life.

The Christian view is - if it opens the mind to clearer thinking and knowledge, they open the spirit to demonic possession. It is estimated that the limits of yoga in the occult, and that only openness and the spirit of the benefits of yoga is dangerous and against Christianity preaches all. Christians believe that the study of the practice of yoga is similar to Hinduism, and you can not separate the philosophy of Hinduism from Christian beliefs, despite the benefits of yoga.

Since the practice of Buddhism, I disagree with this point of view. To me, this reeks of tunnel vision and narrow-mindedness. Christian is expected to open their hearts and minds, Jesus, and give the spirit of the Lord. They are expected to rely on blind faith, and accept the word of God, the only truth to the world. Thinking person might find this hypocritical, because on the one hand, the Christians preach that Yoga should be avoided after the opening of the mind facilitate a clearer view of the possibility of demonic possession, but on the other hand, preaches that one has an open mind and heart to accept Jesus in their lives. Open heart and mind is just that - to check if the car or to accept Jesus in their lives.

If, as Christians we preach, we are open to demonic possession, if we look at ourselves and open your mind to all possibilities, how can we open our hearts safely to the idea of Christianity? Is there a guard who made this decision when we do that determines the way forward? I do not think ...

For the record, I was raised in a Christian home. My father was a deacon of a Baptist church in the small farming community where we lived. My mother, who has taught children to question everything, moved from the Baptist community of the Church Assembly of God, and was ostracized by my father. I think his last days, my father felt this tightness. Life is about choices, and my mother believed that they are not required to operate under the illusion of blind faith, but to do what is good for us as individuals. And that is why the Noble 8 fold Path. It's just a matter of choice, and everything in this universe is.

I believe that yoga is a good thing. It provides great health benefits, a clearer vision and harmony in our souls. And in this day and age, what is it? If we are Christians, Muslims or Buddhists, no disrespect to the feelings and thoughts of others, their right to practice whatever they want, or try to shove our views down the throats of others. To live in harmony, that is it.
